DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), today announced that Battlefield 4 will be available this holiday for early-adopters of the next-generation hardware systems: the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. Powered by the advanced Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield 4 will be available October 29 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Players that pre-order Battlefield 4 will receive the "Battlefield 4 China Rising" premium digital expansion pack at no additional cost. In this sprawling expansion, players fight for dominance across the vast and majestic Chinese mainland in four massive multiplayer maps, using all-new vehicles and high-tech military equipment. Separately, players that pre-order the "Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe" exclusively on Origin will receive the base game, bonus in-game digital items, the "Battlefield 4 China Rising" digital expansion pack and access to the exclusive Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta.

At E3, DICE will be unveiling Battlefield 4 multiplayer with a live demo at “The Download: EA 2013 Preview” press conference taking place at 1:00 pm PST on Monday, June 10.

It’s safe to say that Online Passes are unanimously despised. Designed to stymy the value of secondhand games, the uptake of the initiative by major publishers has been met with scorn by consumers. So much so that EA will discontinue the program for all forthcoming titles, according to EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg.

In a note to GamesBeat, Reseburg confirmed the program will be scrapped, admitting that negative user feedback is to thank for the move. “Yes we’re discontinuing Online Pass,” he wrote. “None of our new EA titles will include that feature.

“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format,” Reseburg continued. “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”

A new ad from Audi pits classic Spock against new Spock, capitalizing on the hype surrounding “Star Trek Into Darkness,” which opens in theaters May 16.

The car commercial features Leonard Nimoy, who played the pointy-eared Vulcan for two decades in the original series as well as in half a dozen movies (not including his 2009 cameo in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek”), and newcomer Zachary Quinto, who took the reins in the reboot.

In the ad (watch it above), Nimoy schools Quinto on a game of chess, and Quinto challenges the victor to a round of golf and a race to the country club.
