New job....starting Monday
Well I finally got a new job ! ! ! I am starting for Nucor-Vulcraft in 2 days. I am soooo excited.
Wow, I am leaving Norfolk Iron & Metal. This is where I have worked for that past 7 1/2 years....I mean all my tenure and benefits from NIM are now gone as of yesterday.... It is still kinda hard to get my head around that yet. The thing that is most weird is that I had just received the promotion to 3rd shift Supervisor the 1st of October. That is the job that I had been wanting for the last couple of years and it finally came open. And I got it and then decide to give it up.. hahaha
That is just how stuff always works out for me it seems. But it is for the better and it was my decision to leave, and to do so on great terms. I have been told by the V.P. that the door at NIM will always be open for me in the future, but honestly I hope that I never get to the point that I need to open that door again. Don't get me wrong I had some good times at NIM... but my memory of all the days camping & boating on vacation or whatever and being sooo tired during the day has put it's toll on me and my family. I have done over 7 years of night shift, and I am pretty damn happy to know that the long nights and my days being soooo tired from no sleep in 27 hours are gone. It has been a great job and pretty damn profitable... I worked my way up from the bottom at NIM to become just about the highest paid non-salary employee. But i worked for it as my family can attest.
Basically I will be working on days on a split-shift schedule at Nucor-Vulcraft, but I will be home every evening. EVERY EVENING. I will be able to sleep in my bed when it is night out, every night. I just can't wait. I can't forget that it is tens of thousands of dollars more a year so that is kinda cool too.. hehe But the biggest bonus of all is that I will get to see my wife and daughter every day all evening, and for more than a few minutes as I do now a couple days each week. And I will have time to be on playing in the evenings..
As you can tell I just can't wait. I am just waiting for Monday to get here now. Cmon, hurry up already....

!
Thats great Joker! I did 3rd shift for 5 months and that was all I could take. It realy screwed me up so I left and went back to my old job. Overall it was worth the downgrade to get my life back cause the only way 3rd shift worked for me was to work 7 days a week and that left no time for family. I couldn't go home friday morning and take a nap and be normal...kinda like a walking zombie!
Cheers to ya bud and good luck on the new job!

congrats J

Congrats Joker being home every evening is great, makes all the difference in the world. Good luck on the new job.

Re:
Congradulations on your new job! Years ago I was on 4 to midnights for about five years. Had to learn to get drunk in less than an hour, last call at 1:00 AM, LOL! Also old rerun TV shows where all new to me. Anyway good luck! Haven't seen ya playing for quite some time, will look forward to it!

Congrats buddy, you will
Congrats buddy, you will really like Nucor! They where in the top 2 for buying our Steel Co. IPSCO but lost out at the last second. Too bad Nucor is a good company to work for. I know they always got bonuses and then we got bonuses!
